Small Groups

 
Commitment to a Small Group study is one of the best ways to experience a real connection to your church, as well as to grow in faith and knowledge of how God wants us to live.
   
 
Winter 2011 - 2012
 
Perhaps you have questions relating to faith and eternal life. Beginning Tuesday, January 10th at 7:00 p.m. in Room 208, Pastor Smiley will be leading a study on the book "Love Wins: A Book About Heaven, Hell, and the Fate of Every Person Who Ever Lived" by Rob Bell. Now there's a title! The book has stirred up some controversy and even made it to the cover of Time Magazine.
If you would like to attend, please notify the church office at office@hisschurch.org. You may purchase or borrow the book on your own or from Hiss at a cost of $16. 
 
 
The Greatest Story: Bible Introduction
This 16 session class, beginning either January 30th or February 1st at 6:30 - 8:00 p.m., is great for those wanting to feel the power and love of God for all God's creation as expressed in the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. Click here for details and instructions for how to sign up.

The Faith Forum will resume on January 15th with a study of the "Women of the Bible: Wild, Wise, Sultry, and Cunning." Learn about the ladies of the Old Testament from Eve to Eunice. All are welcome to join in this study which will pause for Lent and then resume. The class starts at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings in Room C. If the weather is snowy and icy, we will not meet.

"Storming Heaven" Prayer Teams
Feeling overwhelmed? Are your needs or concerns great? Are you concerned for someone else?
The "Storming Heaven" prayer teams meet on Mondays and Wednesdays. Let us add our voices to your prayers.
Put your concerns on a prayer card, call the church office (410-668-5665) and talk to Janey, email: office@hisschurch.org.
 
 Fall Bible Studies:
  • “When the Game is Over, It All Goes Back in the Box”: Join Pastor Weitzel Wednesday evenings through November 9th at 7:00 p.m. in room 208.
     
  • Jeremiah and Lamentations: Join Pastor Mark Smiley Tuesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. in room 208.
     
  • The Faith Forum: Held Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. in Room C (the bride’s room). There will be no class Sunday Oct. 16thThe Faith Forum will be discussing:“Why?: Making Sense of God's Will.” More Faith Forum information is as follows.

      • November 6 - ONE CLASS ONLY: Yu Jung will present a special class to meet requirements for BOOM (Board of Ordine Ministry). All are encouraged to attend and support her in this endeavor.

      • November 13 - December 4: Advent comes a little early... "The Journey" advent study will be presented. Like "24 Hours That Changed the World," Adam Hamilton will take all to the holy lands to experience what it must have been like during the time just before, during, and after the birth of Christ. This DVD study is sure to enrich your preparation for Christmas. All are welcome and there is no need to sign up since a book will not be required for this class. Hope you can join us!

      • December 11 - January 1: Faith Forum will not meet. All are encouraged to listen to the Christmas story as told by the children of Hiss during the 9:30 a.m. service, enjoy the music presented by Hiss church choirs, and spend time with friends and family. May this extra hour give one pause for personal prayer and reflection.
     
  • Another Sunday morning study at 11:00 a.m. is being held in Room C (the bride’s room) discussing John Ortberg’s “If You Want to Walk on Water, You’ve Got to Get Out of the Boat.” There will be no class Oct. 16th or Oct. 23rd.
