Giving

Freely you have received; freely give -- Matthew 10:8b

There are two types of giving to Hiss Church: Regular offerings to support the church's general fund, or special offerings to support a particular fund or mission project.

Ways you can give regular offerings to the general fund of Hiss Church:
  • You may make contributions of checks or cash when the offering plate is passed on Sunday. Checks are preferred, to minimize the amount of cash that must be managed by the Church. If you want to receive a tax deduction for your gift, please write a check, or use one of the regular offering envelopes found in the pews and put your name and address on the envelope.

  • You may ask the Church to send you offering envelopes. We mail out a dated set of offering envelopes each month to all members or anyone else who requests. You may insert a check or cash in the envelope (again, checks are preferred) and place it in the offering plate.

  • You may mail your gift to Hiss United Methodist Church, 8700 Harford Road, Baltimore, MD 21234. It is helpful to the finance office if you use a numbered offering envelope or place your envelope number on the check. It is strongly encouraged that you not send cash through the mail.

  • You may use electronic giving, through which you can automatically transfer money from your checking account to the church on a regular basis. For more information on electronic giving, you may download the information form here or the authorization form here.

  • We are currently looking into the process of adding electronic giving directly to our website and will let you know more at a later date.

Ways you can give special offerings to support a particular fund or mission project:
  • You may make contributions of checks or cash when the offering plate is passed on Sunday, similar to the way detailed above. However, please make a note on the memo field of your check as to the purpose of your contribution, and place either check or cash in one of the special offering envelopes in the pews. Please indicate the purpose of your gift on the envelope, as well, with as much detail as is needed to make sure the funds are used for the purpose you desire. Often there are forms in the bulletin that should accompany your gift, such as dedication forms for flowers, blankets, Bibles, etc.

  • If you receive mailed offering envelopes, there are envelopes for specific purposes that you may use throughout the year.

  • You may mail your gift to Hiss Church following the directions and using the address above. Again, please specify the specific purpose of your gift as clearly as possible.

  • If you use electronic giving, there are several specific purposes that you may choose to designate on the annual electronic giving form.

Planned Giving:
  • In addition to the ways of giving listed above, we encourage you to consider making Hiss United Methodist Church a beneficiary in your will or life insurance policy. This way, you can give a selfless gift that will last beyond your lifetime to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. You may also want to explore charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, or other forms of planned giving. For more information, please contact the Mid-Atlantic United Methodist Foundation at www.midatlanticfoundation.org or by calling 1-800-828-9093.
