What Is It?
The goal of confirmation is to fulfill the promise made by parents at the baptism of their children whereby they are "guided to accept God’s grace for themselves, to profess their faith openly, and to lead a Christian life."
This year we’re taking a new approach to Confirmation Class. As opposed to making Confirmation an additional burden on your already busy schedules, we will be integrating confirmation into the Sunday School lesson. Our sixth grade students, along with select other students who choose to participate, will spend the Sunday School class time studying the United Methodist Confirmation Curriculum, “Credo.” The class will be taught by their regular Sunday School teachers, along with our Director of Youth Ministries, Ms. Taylor Dowell. This will provide the opportunity for your child(ren) to become familiar with Taylor as they anticipate introduction into our Youth Group. In addition to the weekly lessons, special field trips to historical Methodist sites in the area, along with a Confirmation Retreat which the pastor will take part in are in the works.
At the end of the Sunday School year students who faithfully participate in the class will be invited to make their Confirmation in one of our worship services. There is never an obligation for any student to make their “Confirmation” at the end of the class. Having reaching this point in their life, it is their choice. That’s the point. Of course, I hope and pray they will, but regardless, through the process they will have enjoyed a great opportunity to learn of and grow in the Christian faith.
Faithful participation means regular class attendance, participation in class activities, and attendance at special class events.
Cost for student materials will be $11:00. Cost for the retreat has yet to be determined. Assistance is available for those with demonstrable need.
