Rev. Dr. Shelley R. Hawkins
Pastor
Rev. Dr. Shelley R. Hawkins is a commissioned Provisional Elder in the Baltimore-Washington and Peninsula-Delaware Conferences of The United Methodist Church and serves as the Pastor of Hiss United Methodist Church. She is passionate about preaching and teaching God's Word, making disciples of Jesus Christ, and equipping others to grow in their faith.
A lifelong learner, Rev. Dr. Hawkins holds two Master of Divinity degrees, a Doctor of Education, and a Post-Doctoral Degree in Administration and Supervision. Before entering full-time pastoral ministry, she proudly served in the United States Navy and later dedicated 25 years to the District of Columbia Public Schools as an educator and educational leader before retiring in 2025.
Rev. Dr. Hawkins is married to her best friend, Eddie "Cowboy" Dudley, and together they look forward to serving alongside the Hiss United Methodist Church family as they continue “Loving God, Loving All, and Changing Lives.”
Her life and ministry are anchored in her favorite Scripture, Psalm 91:1–2 (KJV): "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him will I trust."
Jim Shiplet
Director of Music
Music Director Jim Shiplet has been with us since 2001. Jim plays at all services and is the Director of the Bell Choir.
Chuck Solomon
Choir Director
Choir Director, Chuck Solomon has been with us since 2000. Chuck began attending Hiss in January 1997 and directs all vocal choirs.
Scott Becker
Custodian
Scott Becker has been with us since 2012. Scott worked in photo processing and restoration before coming to Hiss. Scott considers our Church as his extended family. He loves serving God in this way.
Debby White
Office Administrative Assistant
Office Assistant, Debby White has been with us since 2018. She has been a member of Hiss since 1984.
Julie Cody
Youth Director
Youth Director, Julie Cody has been with us since February 2020. Our Youth Group; also known as LABeL supports the mission of our Church in developing the youth of the church in their belief, understanding and discipleship of Jesus Christ.
